about1.jpg My name is Erin Ruffin. I’m 24-years-old, I’m a writer, and I’ve accidentally started this project called Freehand. It began when someone asked me this question; “If you could say one sentence knowing the whole world is listening, what would you say?” I was stumped – so I started asking my friends, and their friends, and anyone who would give me 5 minutes and an answer. In order to remember the person and their message, I handed over a marker, let them write their answer on their hand or something they’re holding, and snapped their picture. What I’ve been left with is the voice of Generation Y in America. It’s been fun, painful, poignant, creative, and most of all: important.

So far we’ve met people in cafes, bars, laundromats, supermarkets, bus stops - you name it. It’s been great but I want more! So I’m asking for your submissions via email – check out the submit page and send in your pictures and stories. If you could say one sentence knowing the whole world is listening, what would you say?

A broad definition of Generation Y: Anyone born between the years 1974 and 1990.
