erin_freehand_size.jpg My name is Erin Ruffin. I’m 25-years-old, I’m a writer, and I’ve accidentally started this project called Freehand. It began when someone asked me this question; “If you could say one sentence knowing the whole world is listening, what would you say?” I was stumped – so I started asking my friends, and their friends, and anyone who would give me 5 minutes and an answer. In order to remember the person and their message, I handed over a marker, let them write their answer on their hand or something they’re holding, and snapped their picture. What I’ve been left with is the voice of Generation Y. It’s been fun, painful, poignant, creative, and most of all: important.

So far we’ve met people in cafes, bars, laundromats, supermarkets, bus stops - you name it. It’s been great but I want more! So I’m asking for your submissions via email – check out the submit page and send in your pictures and stories. If you could say one sentence knowing the whole world is listening, what would you say?
A broad definition of Generation Y: Anyone born between the years 1974 and 1990.
