My name is Erin Spens. I’m 26-years-old and I started this little project by accident. It began when someone asked me this question; “If you could say one sentence knowing the whole world is listening, what would you say?” I was stumped so I started asking my friends, their friends, and anyone who would give me 5 minutes and an answer. To remember the person and their message, I handed over a marker, let them write their answer on their hand or something they’re holding, and snapped their picture. What I’ve been left with is the voice of Generation Y. It’s been so much fun, a little emotional, totally poignant and most of all - important.
I’m always looking for photographers who want to submit a collection of photos so please get in touch if you’re interested! I would also love to hear from anyone who has been touched or inspired by Freehand - I want to capture more Gen Y stories here. Drop me a line if that’s you!

A broad definition of Generation Y: Anyone born between the years 1974 and 1990.
